10th International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition
The Sibelius Society and the Sibelius Academy are arranging the 10th International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition in Helsinki from November 21 to December 2, 2010. The competition is open to violinists of all nationalities born in or after 1980.
Written notice of participation must be sent to the Secretariat of the Competition to arrive by August 16, 2010 4.15 pm local time. Applications sent by e-mail or fax will not be accepted.
Prizes
The value of the prizes will be as follows:
I 20.000 e
II 15.000 e
III 10.000 e
All other finalists will each receive a prize of 2.000 e. The jury reserves the right to distribute the prizes differently. The Sibelius family will award a special prize of 1.000 euros for all competitors that qualify for the second round. The city of Järvenpää donates a special prize of 1.500 euros.
The following enclosures must accompany the signed application:
a) the candidate’s birth certificate or similar document or a passport copy
b) a short report of music studies and concert activities
c) optional recommendations written specifically for this competition
d) a DVD-video DVD +r or -r containing the first movement of a concerto by Mozart with piano or orchestra accompaniment mentioned in the competition programme of the first round, a Capriccio by Paganini and the first movement of a concerto with piano or orchestra accompaniment mentioned in the programme of the final round. The DVD must be marked with the date and place of recording.
e) a photo measuring at least 9 x 12 cm. The photo may also be sent as a JPG file by e-mail to anna.krohn@siba.fi. Minimum resolution 300 dpi.
The prizes will be awarded after the final round on December 2, 2010.
