Carol Ann Duffy, the new Poet Laureate, is to chair the judging panel for a worldwide poetry competition for 7-11 year olds. National Poet of Wales, Gillian Clarke, will also be part of the esteemed judging panel. The Competition is organised by the Children’s Poetry Bookshelf, a poetry book club for young people run by the Poetry Book Society. The American Kidney Fund’s 2010 Calendar Kids Art Contest winners were announced. Now in its 14th year, Calendar Kids is a nationwide art contest for children who are living with kidney disease. The Calendar Kids Program is sponsored by Amgen.
If you’re 18 or younger, have kidney disease, and live in the United States, you are eligible to enter our national art contest. We choose 13 winners whose drawings will illustrate our American Kidney Fund calendar, which is distributed nationwide. Not only will your drawing appear in our calendar – but you will also win a trip to Washington, DC! During this fun-filled weekend, you’ll tour the city, make friends with the other contest winners, and be honored during an awards dinner. The American Kidney Fund will be accepting new applications starting January 2010. Look out for more updates on the Calendar Kids!

• The competition entry must consist of either the first chapter and synopsis of a Harlequin Presents or Modern Heat novel

• The WINNER receives an editor for a year
• TWO RUNNERS-UP will be given critiques of their first chapter entries and an editorial consultation
• The competition will close on November 2nd 2009 and the winner will be announced in December 2009 on I Heart Presents
