Brian O’Driscoll Launches Annual Credit Union Schools Quiz 2010

Brian O’Driscoll Irish International rugby player today launched the 19th Annual All-Ireland Schools Quiz Competition for the Irish League of Credit Unions. This enormously successful competition will be run through the winter in communities all over Ireland by volunteers from over 500 ILCU affiliated member credit unions. Over 25,000 young people took part in last year’s contest.

Commenting on the launch today Mark Bailey President of the Irish League of Credit Unions said “The credit union movement have always supported young people through our community initiatives. Our All Ireland Schools Quiz run by credit union volunteers is a good example of what we mean by community commitment. This in an important initiative for the credit union movement as it helps us to educate young people about the value of learning in an open and encouraging environment”.

The Quiz is divided into two sections: Competition A for children up to 11 years and Competition B for children between 11 and 13 years.

Speaking at the launch, Brian O’Driscoll said “The Credit Union Schools Quiz stimulates and encourages young minds to expand their general knowledge as well as teaching young people essential team-working skills”.

Local and regional rounds of the quiz will culminate in the National Final to be held in April next year, where 100 teams of 4 children each will compete for the overall sectional and national titles.

2nd Annual Winter Art Competition

The competition is open to artists anywhere in the world. Artists do not need to be members of MyArtworkSpace.com to compete. Only original artwork conceived and created by the entrant, will be considered. Employees of myartworkspace.com, Inc., and their immediate families, are not eligible.

Fees and Payment: A $20 check or money order for the required summation fee must accompany your entry. Or you may enter online using a credit card. There will be a $10 charge for all returned checks. Credit cards will be charged within 90 days of contest deadline.

Awards:
1st Place: $1,000 (USD)
2nd Place: $500 (USD)
3rd Place: $250 (USD)
4th Place: $50 to Blick Art Materials

Deadline: All entries must be postmarked no later than January 31, 2010

Rhode Island State Council On The Arts

The Rhode Island State Police Force was founded in 1925 with the motto, “In the Service of the State.” They are a statewide law enforcement agency with jurisdiction in all 39 cities and towns. There are presently 215 sworn members and 51 civilian staff members. Their main charge is to enforce all motor vehicle and criminal statutes of the General Laws of the State of Rhode Island and to assist city, town and federal law enforcement agencies. To that end, their work ethic is reflected in the Division Creed as follows:

You are always to remember that you are in the Division of State Police and In the Service of the State. It is a call of honor. It requires unselfish devotion to duty, the highest type of honesty, and downright courage.

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older and be a resident of one of the border states. At least two works of art must be submitted. Maximum of three works can be submitted.

Hawaii LifeSmarts Quiz Competition

LifeSmarts, the Ultimate Consumer Challenge, is a Free consumer education competition open to teens in grades 6-12. The competition tests students on their knowledge of

* Personal Finance
* Health and Safety
* Environment
* Technology
* Consumer Rights and Responsibilities

Take a practice quiz and see if you’re ready for the ultimate consumer challenge. Gather your friends and form a team. Each team needs an adult sponsor or coach.

Coaches may enter more than one team, but only one team from each school or organization may qualify for the state competition. So hurry and get your team signed up.

Public schools needing mentors

Volunteers needed as mentors

Want to share your expertise and life experiences with Hawaii’s youth? Volunteers are needed to help guide students in any or all of the LifeSmarts subject areas. Sessions are scheduled independently with schools and should be held between September 1 and November 30. LifeSmarts will provide volunteers with teaching resources. High School Competition (grades 9-12) Online Competition

* September 14, 2009 to December 7, 2009 (11 pm EST)

Scores will be tabulated and the highest scoring teams will be invited to the State Competition, which will be held in Honolulu on February 20, 2010. The winning team at the State Competition will represent Hawaii at the National Competition in Miami Beach, Florida April 24-27, 2010.

Middle School Competition (grades 6-8) Online Competition Only

* September 14, 2009 to March 12, 2010

Students in grades 6-8 will compete only online. National winners will be announced after the competition closes.
