Leaf Books invites you to submit poems (max 35 lines) on any subject. Winning and commended entries will be published in an anthology and very outstanding poems in the Leaf Writing magazine.

2010 International Science Poetry Competition

Three age group divisions: 9-11, 12-14, and 15+ years of age.

What Conditions Apply?
* Entries must be original, in English, and in hard copy (printed) format only.
* Entrants need to be primary or high school students at the time of entry.
* Your poem must have something to do with science (e.g., a science experiment, a science idea, or a scientific issue that is important in our lives; even a science teacher!) and should have rhyme and rhythm.
* There is no limit to the length of your poem, but short poems can be great.
* A student may enter more than one poem.
* The judges’ decision is final.
* Permission is granted for Science Time to reproduce your entry.

What Needs to be Done?
Post your poem/s or rhyme/s, together with the completed Entry Form, to reach us by June 30, 2010. Include the student name, age (as of the closing date), and school on each poem (possibly on the back). The entry fee of 5.50 AUD (Australian dollars, and including GST) per poem needs to accompany the Entry Form. There is a minimum fee of 27.50 AUD per school (not applicable to homeschoolers), but no maximum limit. The entry fees contribute to judging and administration costs, including the issuing of certificates.

Architects for Health Student Design Award 2010

Architects for Health invite architectural students to submit projects to be considered for the third annual Student Healthcare Design Award 2010. As in previous years any* project relating to the design of a healthcare building can be submitted, however the 2010 competition introduces a greater emphasis on the sample brief – Designing for Death: Hell, Purgatory and Paradise and a specific prize will be awarded for the most successful response to the sample brief we have prepared. ENTRANCE CRITERIA

  • A response to the sample brief or a student architectural project concerning healthcare design**
  • By students who are presently studying or having completed their studies within 18 months of submission date.
  • Open to students worldwide
  • Submission electronically to mail@afhawards.org by 1200hrs on the 5th of July 2010
  • The project has not been submitted in previous years
  • Administration fee of £10 (GBP) payable by PayPal

PRIZES: £2000 Prize fund to be divided between 1, 2 or 3 of the short-listed Candidates including at least 1 project responding to the Designing for Death Brief.
