The Strokestown International Poetry Festival 2009 & Competitions 2010
The 2009 festival which took place on the first weekend of May, was terrific and as has become traditional over the 11 years of our gathering the sun blazed down on us.
Poets arrived from the USA and Europe as well as from all parts of Ireland and Britain the winner of the first prize, Padraig Rooney is an Irishman currently living in Switzerland. Stephanie Green came from Scotland as a short-listed poet and writes:
Prizes of €4,000 (currently approximately £3,500 sterling or $5,500 US dollars), €2000 and €1000 for an unpublished poem in English not exceeding 70 lines. In addition the ten short-listed poets are invited to read a selection of their work at the festival for a reading fee and travelling expenses totalling €400 (approximately £380 / $640).
The entry fee is €5 (or £5 sterling, or $5) per poem, and for online entries €6 per poem.
All entries should arrive on or before Friday 5th February 2010 at: Strokestown Poetry Festival Office, Strokestown, County Roscommon, Ireland.
